New spark plugs and topped up coolant

As there is now only two days left until I'm leaving the bike with the shipping agent I quickly scanned the user manual for things I haven't checked. Two things popped in to my mind when reading the service schedule: spark plus and coolant. Spark plugs requires most attention so will be more details below.

Getting the spark plugs from Ben, in the picture above, who is the local Hong Kong Husqvarna dealer and this was likely the last visit to his shop for a year or so.



To remove spark plugs first use a torx tool to unscrew the ignition coil holders. There is one screw on each side.



Remove the connectors and pull out the coil plug


The inner one is a bit tricker to reach so you can use a screw driver as leverage


Once the coils are out you can wiggle out the coil holders and expose the spark plugs.


Unscrew the spark plugs with a 14mm hex key. The diameter of the hex key has to be about 20mm or less in order to fit into the inner plug hole


You can now unscrew the spark plugs and take them out.

Looks a bit used up during the past 10000km so a pair of fresh ones will go in/


Secondly I noticed the coolant was a bit low. Unscrew the coolant cap on the right hand side and make sure the entire radiator is filled with coolant. After this, fill up the coolant compensation tank to between the min and max level as seen in the picture above. You should really also run up the bike to 5 bars and then let it cool down and recheck the coolant level. Is coolant has left the system then top it up again.

Getting stuck in New Territories

Last Sunday the weather was great and I hadnt been out riding for a while so thought I would head out for a ride. Not having ridden for a few weeks I noted the battery had gone flat. I took it out and put it on charge for an hour while having breakfast. Normally I charge it longer but I was keen on getting out on the road and while riding the bike the battery is getting charged so didn't worry to much of having a flat battery. I was just coming over the mountain range on Route Twisk, where plenty of sport bikes go racing, when I noticed I was low on fuel. I pulled into a gas station and filled the bike up. Once I was ready to go I turned the ignition back on but nothing happened when I pushed the start button. Since the light came on and the headlight looked fine it wasn't obvious what was wrong. Trying out the bluetooth OBD connector

I want to connect my laptop to my bike in order to both get diagnostic info out as well as hook up new toys to it. The most promising way to do this sounds like the OBD2 diagnostics interface. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be easy to do on bikes from 2014 or later having the "Fly by Wire" throttle. In the past I've happily connected my KTM 990 Adventure to TuneECU but the 2014 690 Enduro R is not playing a long as easily. So far I've tried out the Lonelec cable and USB cable to laptop Konnwei KW902 Bluetooth dongle Vgate Scan OBD Bluetooth dongle Only the Vgate dongle is responding but is not talking to TuneECU. However connecting with a serial comm terminal like Tera Term then it responds to the basic ELM commands.
